«For more than 100 years psychologists have addressed the nature and underlying mechanisms of insight by behavioral and more recently neuroimaging experiments. It was found that re-structuring of the given problem elements or the goal representation characterizes important cognitive mechanisms which help to overcome an impasse. However, which cognitive processes are responsible for an insight is still unclear. We propose that computational models can help to scrutinize underlying processes by detailing and specifying potential dynamics.
In our presentation, we will introduce the foundations of problem solving, insight, and computational modeling. We will demonstrate different approaches on insight problem solving and show the potential and problems of these approaches.»
